How To Free Yourself From Self-Abuse

hand holding heart

Dear ones each of you know that doing conscious harm to your bodies will result in deterioration and a shortened life span but so many of you are unaware that self-harm extends beyond the physical. Punishing yourself through overindulgence or strict denial has no benefit but allowing yourself to remain mired in the waters of defeat, victimization and self-pity are even more dangerous acts of self-abuse than the addictions that address the physical body.

When you entertain thoughts that are hyper-critical, judgmental or negative and accept them passively as truth, this is when you have done yourselves the most harm possible

It’s the so-called invisible ways in which you engage in self-destruction that are causing you the greatest harm. The thoughts that proclaim boldly, “You have no value, You and your contribution are worthless, You are indeed shameful and most likely to bear the burden of guilt for those unforgivable actions in which you took part.” When you allow thoughts such as these to run through your mind unchecked or when you entertain thoughts that are hyper-critical, judgmental or negative and accept them passively as your truth, this is when you’ve done yourselves the most harm possible. If you’re not your biggest fan, if you’re not taking time out for yourself or you’re not spending some time out of every day giving back to yourself, you’re in trouble and heading toward disaster.

Instead of allowing yourself to remain in a long term relationship with any of your beliefs, you must do a periodic review

Negative thinking, believing the worst, acting as if the sky will be falling at any minute are ways in which you’re contributing to your own destruction. Instead of allowing yourself to remain in a long term relationship with any of your beliefs, you must do a periodic review. Ask yourself, “Why do I believe this to be true? How does it make me feel? Do I find myself becoming happier and more joyful when I think this way or do I become heavier and more burdened? Which of the beliefs that I hold, open the door for growth and freedom and which of my beliefs keep me stifled and small?

You do more damage with your mind thane you ever could with any physical act of self-abuse

Yes, drugs, alcohol, poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle are hazardous to your health. They are indeed all ways in which you are inflicting self-harm but they are mild in comparison to the damage you’re doing by allowing a negative, limiting mindset to be operating in your energetic field. Let’s be honest and admit what’s possible. You can overeat, undereat, take pills and drink, up to a point. However, at some point, the body will shut down your activities and force you to take a break but at no time does the mind choose to shut down and turn off. Therefore, your poisonous thoughts, your silent accusations and your feelings of not being good enough have the potential to eat away at your spirit 24 hours a day. You do more damage with your mind than you ever could with any physical act of self-abuse.

Nothing is holding you prisoner to a set of beliefs or a way of thinking except yourself

Yet, just as the mind can inflict the greater punishment it can also provide the greatest reward. The mind that was allowed to devolve into a place of self-abuse doesn’t have to stay in that place. Nothing is holding you prisoner to a set of beliefs or a way of thinking except yourself so it’s time for you to make a conscious choice. If you’ve chosen to be abusive with your thoughts then it’s time for you to choose to see who you really are instead. No excuses can be tolerated. No amount of, “I didn’t mean it,” will be found acceptable. Instead of excuses, you must step forward and recognize all of the damage and abuse you have inflicted upon yourself by choosing not to fill your mind with all the abundance, joy, peace and love that surrounds you on a daily basis. When you choose to see the dark side, you choose to sentence yourself to a pris on of shame and blame. You’ve locked yourself into a place from which you believe there can be no escape, however, there’s always a way out. Choose this day to see the blessing instead of the curse. Choose this day to take responsibility for each thought that you allow to take up residence in your mind.

The minute you stand up and say, “I’ve had enough! I’m ready to take charge of my life,” the transformation will begin

As long as you maintain the attitude that you have no control over your mind, what happens to you or how you react to it, you will continue to feel as though you’re a victim. You’ll continue to engage in self-abusive behavior and you’ll continue to feel shame and blame. Your world will continue to grow smaller and darker and you’ll move further and further from joy. However, the minute you stand up and say, “I’ve had enough! I’m ready to take charge of my life,” the transformation will begin.

Each time you arrive at a dark place ask yourself, why?

Little by little you must do the work to peel away the layers of pain and deceit that have formed during the time when your mind controlled you. Little by little you must examine where your mind goes when it’s allowed to roam. Each time you arrive at a dark place ask yourself, why? “What was I thinking about, participating in or believing about myself that allowed me to engage in these self-abusive thoughts? When you discover the point of origin, the way into the darkness, do not allow it to stay unchallenged. Instead, go into the corresponding heart point and see what feelings you’ve attached to those thoughts. Why has it become acceptable to think of yourself in those disparaging terms and what are you willing to do to change your perception of yourself?

Your Creator sees you as perfect

We cannot but advise, that you choose to be willing to do whatever it takes to change your self-perception from one of abuse to one of acceptance. It’s imperative that you learn to love and accept every part of yourself. Your Creator sees you as perfect, how can you see yourself as any less? Take control, turn your thoughts away from darkness and free yourself so you may walk confidently into the light.
